Queens-Day!

In the Netherlands we have this weird tradition (according to some foreign stand-up comedians) called Queens-Day.

What is it?

Simply the Queens birthday, or well, her moms birthday since our current queen decided not to chance the date when she became queen.
It is, and always has been, a national holiday and everywhere around the country there are sights to go to. From free concerts to flea markets.

Wether or not you are a fan of the monarchy, most people go out and have fun, especially when the weather is nice and warm like it was today!

We went to this huge flea market in the biggest park of the city we live in. There were about 60.000 visitors and hundreds of people selling their stuff.

And we went treasure-hunting and came out vitorious!!

Here are some picture's of our found treasure's :

vintage suitcase
walking-stick
decorative pistol
big old wooden clock
small old wooden clock

swing bank doll-size.
laurel & hardy
copper bird cage

6 school-stamps from the 1940's-1950's
43 pieces of lace
compas

4 keychain rag doll animals

book-end dragon statue

parts of an old broken clock my husband dismantled when we got home

We wanted to find some clock parts we could use for our steampunk projects and we found plenty! The clocks (all 3 of them), the walking stick and the compas are all ment for steampunk projects.

The vintage suitcase reminded me of a project I once saw online where a woman turned it into a storage unit for all her crafting supplies. I loved it and made a mental note to make something like that someday. Now I need to find the website again where I saw it to check out how she made it!

The swing bank was an awesome find. I was looking for a piece of doll-size furniture which I would be able to "pimp"/alter into a colourfull edition for my daughters new Lalaloopsy Dolls. I didn't expect to find something so perfect!

The keychain rag doll animals are going to be pets for the Lalaloopsy's. I'm going to take of the keychain and thats that. They are the perfect style to match the dolls!

The bird cage, the gun and the dragon statue where present from my mom for me, my husband and our daughter. We love them all and they are going to get a special place in our house. The gun and the bird cage might even get a steampunk make-over one day!

The stamps and the lace were a happy suprise I didn't expect to find and I am sure they will end up on some of my future projects!

And Laurel and Hardy? Well, my father in law has a Laurel and Hardy collection and we figured it would be a fun, little gift!

Now, I am going to spend my evening relaxing and figuring out what to craft first! I missed out on a lot of awesome challenges and ideas this last week because of a lack of crafting time and I really need to catch up!
And I'm sure my husband is going to spend some time with the clock-works this week!

Enjoy the beautiful spring weather and have fun!

Simon Says Stamp and Show... Anything Goes! Challenge.

I made a memory-board for Liesbeth's birthday, my husbands aunt.
Her parents, my husbands grandparents, both past away in the last 8 months.
I wanted to make something beautifull as a reminder of all the good memories we will always have.

An overview of the completed board.
Some of the details. A picture of my daughter when she was 5 months old.
I found the idea for using the date-stamp this way on one of the blogs I follow.  It fits perfectly with the other details.
A picture of her father and our daughter.
The picture was made in januari 2012, his 80th birthday-party, he past away in march 2012.
An older picture of her mother, she past away in september 2011.
Memory, the word says it all.

Tim Holtz : 12 Tags of 2012 April.

The example Tim Holtz made gave me the inspiration to make the following tag.

This is the second tag I made for this years 12 Tags challenges and I really like the fact that I'm getting better at it. At least, I like to think I'm getting better!

I love this picture where the tag is standing against one of our dragon statues.
Unfortunately it is a bit cloudy on the details.
This is the picture I'm going to use for the

Swirlydoos April Kit Reveal Blog-Hop!

What a wonderfull way of showing the newest scrapbooking supplies!

I absolutely enjoyed the adventure of finding the "special words" in this world of wonderfull crafting projects.

The words made a Question and you had to leave behind a comment with your Answer. This was mine;

Hop Hop Hop, That was so much fun to go! I've seen so may beautifull, lovely, cute and wonderfull projects that all I want now is start crafting!

The Question : Name At Least Three Important Criteria In Choosing A Kit Club.

The Answer : Untill todat I didn't know about Kit Clubs so I did some research to figure out what they are all about and I get it now!

My 3 criteria would be:
1) Style, which style does the kit-club use the most and does it fit my own style.
2) What is in the monthly kits and what is the price.
3) Variety, do you get something different each month or is it pretty much the same.

Unfortunately I have a small budget for my crafting supplies and the Kit Clubs wouldn't be an option because it would be a returning spend. I absolutely love the kits from swirlydoos and I would like to buy some of those, one day!

Thank you for this lovely journey through the designing world of swirlydoos!

April Inspiration Emporium Water Coloring Challenge part II

I read you can enter as many times as you want... AWESOME!

After doing the bleu/green combination for myself I decided to make a pink/red combination for my mother as a little easter-gift.

Who like Coffee and Cupcakes?

Using the same technique but in this case a bit more paint to keep the red from turning pink.

A close-up from the Coffee canvas.

April Inspiration Emporium Water Coloring Challenge part I

Ok, I read the challenge, watched some tutorials about different techniques, found 2 sets of scrapbooking-sets and got started.

Here's the first one:

I used a little acrylic paint and a lot of water.
I worked in layers of colour, sprayed some water on a waterresistent piece of paper,
coloured the water with the paint and dabbed the canvas in the water.
Let the layer dry and do it again with another colour.
The scrapbooking-set was a blue/green coloured  set of birds and flowers.

I made a lay-out spread out over 2 canvas.

A close-up from the flowers on the right canvas.

Simon Says Stamp and Show... a Tag! Challenge

For this weeks challenge I decided to try some new ideas and see what would happen.

I made a bunch of tags with different backgrounds and then I started thinking about the altering and adding.

So far I finished 2 tags and I'm fairly proud of the results.

Here they are :

The picture's aren't very clear but I think every detail is captured on it.

The right one says : Happy Easter

I was waiting for the perfect moment to use the wooden butterfly & bird and on these tags it all really comes together.
